Abstract [en]
The purpose of this thesis is to explore social workers’ experiences of burnout and to identify coping strategies that have contributed to a health-promoting and sustainable working life. Through a systematic review, the study examines existing research on burnout among social workers, with a focus on how work-related stress can be managedthrough various coping strategies and the identification of associated risk factors. This study has examined the following questions: What risk factors do social workers encounter in their daily work that may lead to burnout, according to current research? What coping strategies can social workers apply in their daily work to maintain their psychological health, according to current research? Through systematic literature review, current research on burnout among social workers and coping strategies was identified. Results that emerged were themed in three areas: burnout and well-being, work environment and organizational factors, and coping strategies among social workers. The analysis was based on the theoretical framework, the demand-controlsupport model and coping theory. The study's results show that social workers are a vulnerable professional group at risk of work-related stress due to deficiencies in collegial support, organizational resources and coping strategies. The study shows that there are deficiencies in the preventive measures aimed at preventing burnout among social workers. The study highlights the need for both individual and organizational protective factors to create a sustainable and health-promoting working life.
