Syftet med studien var att analysera hur alumner från Fotbollstränarprogrammet vid Högskolan i Gävle etablerade sig på arbetsmarknaden samt att undersöka hur utbildningen och andra faktorer påverkade deras yrkesvägar. Forskningsfrågorna fokuserade på alumnernas nuvarande sysselsättning, hur utbildningen bidrog till deras kompetens enligt USEM-modellen och vilka faktorer som var avgörande för deras yrkesval.

Studien genomfördes som en kvantitativ enkätundersökning med ett beskrivande och explorativt perspektiv. Undersökningsgruppen bestod av alumner examinerade mellan 2016 och 2025, där totalt 58 respondenter deltog. Data bearbetades statistiskt i SPSS, och chi-två-test användes för att identifiera samband mellan yrkesval och upplevd utbildningsrelevans. USEM-modellen användes även som analytiskt ramverk vid tolkningen av resultaten.

Resultaten visade att majoriteten av respondenterna hade sin huvudsakliga sysselsättning utanför fotbollen, men att många ändå upplevde att deras arbete motsvarade utbildningens innehåll och krävde högskolekompetens. Utbildningen ansågs ha bidragit till utvecklingen av ledarskap, pedagogik och självkännedom som tränare. Personlig motivation och tidigare erfarenheter inom fotbollen framstod som centrala faktorer för etablering. Ett statistiskt signifikant samband identifierades mellan arbete inom fotboll och upplevd matchning mellan utbildningens innehåll och arbetsuppgifter.

Slutsatsen var att Fotbollstränarprogrammet stärkte alumnernas anställningsbarhet genom att utveckla både ämneskunskap och reflekterande förmåga. Samtidigt påverkades etableringen i hög grad av individuella drivkrafter och informella nätverk. Studien belyste tränaryrkets pågående professionalisering och behovet av att integrera praktiska nätverksstöd i akademiska program för att underlätta övergången till arbetslivet.

The aim of this study was to analyze how alumni from the Football Coaching Program at the University of Gävle established themselves in the labor market and to investigate how the education and other factors influenced their career paths. The research questions focused on the alumni's current employment, how the education contributed to their competence according to the USEM model, and which factors were decisive for their career choices.The study was conducted as a quantitative survey with a descriptive and exploratory perspective. The study group consisted of alumni graduated between 2016 and 2025, with a total of 58 respondents. Data were processed statistically in SPSS, and chi-square tests were used to identify correlations between career choices and perceived educational relevance. The USEM model (Understanding, Skills, Efficacy beliefs, and Metacognition) served as the analytical framework for interpreting the results.The results showed that the majority of respondents had their primary occupation outside of football, but many still felt that their work corresponded to the content of the program and required higher education competence. The education was considered to have contributed to the development of leadership, pedagogy, and self-awareness as a coach. Personal motivation and previous experience in football emerged as central factors for establishment. A statistically significant correlation was identified between working within football and the perceived match between educational content and work tasks.The conclusion was that the Football Coaching Program strengthened the alumni's employability by developing both subject knowledge and reflective ability. At the same time, establishment was highly influenced by individual drivers and informal networks. The study highlights the ongoing professionalization of the coaching profession and the need to integrate practical networking support in academic programs to facilitate the transition to working life.
