Genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med fyra personer med transerfarenhet har denna studie undersökt transpersoners (transvestiter, transsexuella, intergender och andra med transerfarenhet) utsatthet för brott och annan utsatthet, om de kontaktat rättsväsendet i samband med sin utsatthet och hur de bemötts av rättsväsendet i händelse av kontakt med det. Utsattheten har sett olika ut beroende av olika diskrimineringsgrunder, varit mångfacetterad och utgjorts av både handlingar som är och inte är stadgade som brott. Utsattheten har varit så pass förekommande att den normaliserats av och blivit svår att urskilja för intervjudeltagarna. Det framkom olika anledningar till varför de intervjuade personerna valt respektive inte valt att kontakta rättsväsendet, däribland rädsla för sekundär viktimisering och andras eller egen tidigare erfarenhet av dåligt bemötande. Rättsväsendets bemötande har, då det varit befintligt, varierat. Hur väl binära transpersoner passerar påverkade i stor utsträckning utsattheten, eftersom okunskapen om transpersoner är stor och ofta resulterar i diskriminering.

In using semi-structured interviews with four people of trans experience, the study investigated such peoples’ (transvestites, transgender, inter-gender and other with transexperience) exposure to crime and other vulnerabilities. It explored whether they had contacted the justice system concerning their vulnerabilities and if so, the quality of the response they received, in the case of there being any at all. The exposure to crime (and other) varies greatly as it is dependent upon different grounds of discrimination. It is also said to be multifaceted and made up of both illegal actions and others that are not necessarily lawfully deemed a crime. The exposure of such discrimination is to a degree of frequency, the interviewees normalise it and struggle to distinguish it. There are multiple reasons as to why the interviewees do or do not choose to contact the justice system, possibly the fear of secondary victimization or their own earlier experience of poor treatment. This potentially could also be put to the fact the justice system’s response has, when it existed, varied significantly. How well binary transpeople pass affect the exposure to crime (and other) to a great extent, since the ignorance of transpersons is large and often result in discrimination.
